What's next 2020?

Well, 2019 has gone fast. It's that time of the year again - planning for 2020.
Am I skipping over people straight to business?
I’m getting an odd sense of déjà vu. I know I should be inviting people to co-create the 2020 strategy. In the past, I just didn’t do it - I didn’t have time. I would consolidate the numbers, present it to the Board for approval, and then expect people to follow through. But somewhere down the track, the vision gets stuck. I tell myself much better to invite people upfront to co-create the vision.
When I consciously bring people into the co-creation upfront, insights come up that I never knew, that drive profound growth. It reinforces ownership. I’m blown away by the speed the team subsequently activates the vision and turn it into reality. They move the needle to open up “what’s next.”
I learnt that if you want to run fast, you’ve gotta dress up slowly. When I don’t do this, I’ve found myself outside the office in my pyjamas.

Where do you see things slowing the team down?
What role do you want to play in shaping this future?
Creating the right space is also important for co-creation. It doesn’t have to be in a fancy ballroom. You can have a lot of fun doing this. Brainstorm on the beach in Sentosa, followed by hot dogs and beer.
Putting people first takes some effort. It doesn’t happen by chance. But it’s worth it. There’s nothing more thrilling than being part of a fast-moving team working together to win the bigger game. If you know someone looking to move the needle in 2020, please let us know.
