In 2014 I saw a cliff coming. We were doubling our business year on year, but we also realised that we were starting to compete against mighty tech titans like LinkedIn. We knew we had to change, but what do we change to?
Every man and their dog had THE solution for us, especially the consultants. When faced with uncertainty, their confidence was the ultimate comfort food: instant noodles. Just add hot water to have success in 2 minutes.
We paid heavy tuition fees to learn that cookie-cutter answers don’t work. What did? A series of experimentation with real customers. We built, measured and learnt through 12 prototypes over 3 years.
We facilitated the change from the inside out. Today we are a leadership development company, and we have facilitated small high-impact interventions for companies like Dentsu Aegis Network, HP and L’Oreal.
Michael Kuehner, CEO of Celcom shared his experience of regaining its no.2 market position, reversing a three-year trend of declining profits and market share by facilitating change from the inside out.
The transformation started with setting a true north to help awaken the change in everyone, inviting employees to get involved early in the change process. Celcom’s hierarchy reduced from 12 to 6 levels. Management conducted skip-level meetings and monthly management sit-downs to respond to employees’ anonymous queries. As he shared, “(Your) people need to feel something is changing.”
